Unit Name: Electrical Fitting Practice

Description: This is one of a set of units, the overall purpose of which is to develop the manual and tool based skills which are required for the construction, installation and maintenance of electrical equipment and services. This unit is mainly concerned with the development of skills in the use of hand and machine tools for fabrication and fitting.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students should be able to: 1. Explain the procedures for the safe use of tools and the rules for safe working in workshops and complete practical exercises using common metal working hand tools. 2. Check and explain practical exercises using common workshop machines e.g., pillar drill, grinder, lathe, sharpen twist drills. 3. Explain and demonstrate the use of drills, taps, dies and hole saws. 4. Explain the drilling and molding of materials used in electrical work, e.g., copper, aluminum, brass, insulation materials, mild steel, steel etc. 5. Complete some tasks using skills in the fabrication, from steel sheet, an enclosure for electrical equipment or a section of ducting.
