Unit Name: Innovation Management & New Product Development

Description: Engineers can play a unique role in fostering innovation and entrepreneurship. In this Unit you will get the opportunity to explore new product development using a project management framework. You will be challenged to create value with a new or improved product for existing and/or new markets. You can bring your own proposals, or work on requests from industry and/or communities.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students should be able to: 1. Apply knowledge of mathematics, natural science and engineering fundamentals in the process of new product design. (WA1) 2. Identify the objectives and requirements of components and processes for new product design. (WA2, WA3) 3. Apply required analysis tools proficiently to prepare the model/solution/design as per the objective of the new product design. (WA4) 4. Apply reason informed by contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to professional engineering practice and standards. (WA5, WA7) 5. Demonstrate and communicate that with knowledge comes boundaries and innovation. (WA10, WA11)
