Unit Code: EEB606

Unit Name: Power Electronics

Description: This course will introduce you to the principles and practice of smart electrical energy conversion. The fundamental power electronic converter topologies are introduced, and you will learn about modulation processes (i.e., switching) and control techniques for these systems. The course emphasizes digital strategies appropriate for implementation using digital signal processors. It should also be the basis for further studies and development of this area of engineering.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students should be able to: 1. Analyse the characteristics, operation, and application of power control devices. (WA1) 2. Design and analyze control circuits for power control devices. (WA3) 3. Analyse and understand the basic operation of regulated power supplies. (WA2) 4. Investigate and design the design circuits of inverter and convertor circuits. (WA4) 5. Design and analyse the methods to control DC and AC drives and interpret its industrial application. (WA3)
