Unit Name: Education for Sustainable Development

Description: The world and its resources is finite. Today?s ever changing world and the pace of such changes has been variously discussed in multiple fora around the world especially with COP23 and Fiji?s very direct and instructive involvement in this world body?s (the UN) SD agenda. The course will focus on the UN, Millennium Development Goals (ESD) Post 2015.Candidates will examine the global instrument?s underlying values and ideals as well as their goals and target dates, together with the reasons why this initiative was set up. Local ideas of SD will also be examined in a number of ways that may culminate in research studies by candidates. Candidates will conduct research on how in Fiji and among Pacific communities conceptualize the main ideas, issues and solutions associated with SD and critically analyze the implications of their findings to the successful implementation of these in their MOE curriculum and classrooms with the candidate?s choice of level. Candidate?s critical inquiry and problem solving skills will be fostered in the whole course learning processes.
