Unit Name: Principles of Assessing Learning
Description: This course examines best practices in assessing learning. It examines issues such as the purposes, paradigms and types of assessment and evaluation used in higher education. In addition, the fundamental functions of assessment in learning and teaching, including the need for constructive feedback will be discussed. Furthermore, the role of evaluation, the analysis of assessment data to inform practice in higher education as well as a range of assessment frameworks will be explored.
Learning Target Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
1.2.1 Describe best assessment practices and their significance in the teaching and learning process.
1.2.2 Create and use a range of suitable assessment activities for learning programmes to enhance student performance.
1.2.3 Devise appropriate assessment tools, develop specifications, and make sense of various assessment data using the new revised Bloom’s/Krathwohl’s Taxonomy of Instructions.
1.2.4 Analyse, interpret and report student academic performance data in an ethical manner to interested stakeholders.
1.2.5 Analyse and use appropriate assessment frameworks to guide in developing quality assessment activities.
