Unit Name: Curriculum Development in Higher Education

Description: This course provides students with an understanding of curriculum design and development in higher education, especially in terms of curriculum theories, principles and processes. The issues related to curriculum design for multi-modal delivery are examined. The course encourages a critical reflection of the existing curriculum documents in relation to multi-modal delivery used by higher education institutions. Also, students will engage in discussions on curriculum mapping, curriculum design and development approaches as well as effective curriculum evaluation.

Learning Target Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
1.2.1 Describe the need to consider “learners” in the process of curriculum planning and development
1.2.2 Use curriculum knowledge and skills to engage actively in curriculum mapping, implementation and evaluation of learning programmes.
1.2.3 Examine the role of multi-modal delivery in modern higher education and its impact on curriculum planning and development.
1.2.4 Evaluate different forces behind curriculum innovation and change.
1.2.5 Demonstrate sound understanding of curriculum contexts, models, theories relevant to teaching in a particular setting.
