Unit Name: Numeracy & Mathematics Education 2

Description: This course is the second of the two compulsory Mathematics Education courses for students. Mathematics & Numeracy for Middle & Upper Primary aims to further develop studnets understanding of the Primary Mathematics Education processes to enable them to scrutinise, analyse and question the status quo of Mathematics Education culture in Fiji. It further aims to make students aware of the issue in Mathematics education for better designing and execution of human and material resources in teaching mathematics for understanding.Thus contributing significantly towards reducing the hegemony that mathematics is abstract and useless. It will also encourage a constant search for more effective means of collecting and disseminating mathematical ideas and the alternative ways of assessing mathematics in the classroom.This course also utilises the information access on the internet to preview most recent researched areas in Primary mathematics and the underlining principles that justifies these new approaches.
