Unit Name: Social Education 2

Description: This unit is designed to familiarize students with the area of Social Education and the primary Social Science curriculum. It aims to enable them to acquire the knowledge and skills to plan and teach components of the curriculum particularly in primary school as well as develop appropriate assessment. The course will focus on basic strategies that may be used for developing concepts and skills as well as approaches for values exploration. Students will have the opportunities to prepare and evaluate resources for future teaching in the upper primary throughout the course as well as engage interactively in their learning. The unit will further develop students to respect others, appreciate Fiji?s multicultural heritage and are responsible, informed and involved citizens of both Fiji and the world. Social Education is about assisting students develop an understanding our political and social heritage and the rights and responsibilities of democratic citizenship, so that they in turn can participate as active and informed citizens with a sense of the importance of being life long learners in a global community.
