Unit Name: Science Education 2

Description: This course is the second of the two compulsory Science Education courses for students in their three years of study in the Bachelor of Education Primary programme. This course offers pre- service teachers' the opportunity to develop conceptual knowledge, pedagogical skills, positive attitudes and enthusiasm to teach science effectively and in a manner that enhances children?s curiosity,and enthusiasm. It is designed to improve your content understanding of physical and earth science concepts at the same time develop content specific pedagogical knowledge to teach science meaningfully. You will engage in activity-based learning and problem solving activities to learn science concepts that will model to you some of the many strategies for teaching those concepts to primary students. Conceptual understanding will be further consolidated through the exploration of pertinent issues in science education through set readings.
