Unit Name: Assessment and Evaluation in Primary Schools

Description: Assessment and evaluation are key directors of education, and are pivotal to learning and teaching. Assessment is the process of making a judgement or measurement of worth of an entity, a person or a process. Evaluation in education involves gathering and evaluating data evolving from planned learning activities, delivery of instructions and/or programs. This course examines the different purpose assessment serves in the classroom and using the Fiji Islands Assessment Framwework looks at alternative assessmernt practices with its role in improving student learning in classrooms. The learning objectives, preparation of test blueprint and Examination paper are explored in detail together with the assessment and evaluation tools that could be used to gather student information and the progress in their learning. The course also explores developing marking criteria to guide students in their learning journey. The unit concludes with the statistical analysis of scores used in Fijian classrooms.
