Description: EDU 641: Language and Literacy 1, is the foundation course of study in the teaching of literacy with specific focus on English in a lower primary classroom. It is the first of the three (3) courses on offer for primary student teachers at the Fiji National University Bachelor in Primary Teaching Programme, and is guided by Socio-cultural view of language and literacy learning and teaching. Through your studies in this course, you will incorporate a broad knowledge on theoretical concepts with substantial depth in some areas and employ a wide range of specialized skills that underpin effective English language learning and teaching in ?lower primary multigrade classrooms?. Your acquired knowledge will provide the framework for you to: ? Undertake self-directed learning as well as directed activity (ies) ? Participate in tutorials and workshops ? Take responsibility for assigned work ? Meet specified quality and standard and ? Operate within broad general guidelines and functions of the course The focus of this course will be reviewed from time to time depending on the learning and teaching need in the Lower Primary Classrooms in Fiji. The focus this semester is on the learning and teaching in ?lower primary multigrade classrooms?.
