Unit Name: Art and Craft in ECE

Description: This course is designed to enhance students' understanding of the characteristics and developmental stages of early childhood art. It will enable the students to develop and implement art and craft programs to cater for the needs of a multicultural society. While emphasis is placed on providing young children with basic art materials and experiences, students will also be encouraged to extend children's learning through exploration of contemporary, traditional and cross-cultural art materials and processes adapted for exploration at this level. Students will also understand that arts supports young children's holistic development and for this reason the course includes a strand for personal development of these processes; the personal development strand includes a focus on visual literacy.

Prerequisite: N/A

Prerequisite Sentence: The student must have passed Form 7 with 50% in English and Maths or mature age entry with experience in early childhood education as well as competence in one of Fijian, Urdu, Hindi or Rotuman up to Form 2 (Class 8) level.
