Unit Code: EDU1001
Unit Name: Quantitative Research Methodology
Description: This course is designed to provide students with a basic understanding of quantitative research methodology and methods. Quantitative research primarily involves the use of surveys, sampling, and statistical analysis of numerical data to draw conclusions about larger populations. Also, students will learn about the research process involving a series of steps from start to finish. Students will be given the opportunity to explore research planning and design, sampling and data collection, and data analysis. This will give students first-hand experience by designing a small-scale study based on their own area of interests, collecting, and analyzing data and in turn sound interpretation of data. The advantages and limitations of quantitative research will also be covered in this course.
Learning Target Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
1.2.1 Recognize various concepts of descriptive and inferential statistics.
1.2.2 Apply philosophical and epistemological ideas associated with quantitative research.
1.2.3 Undertake research using quantitative approaches.
1.2.4 Critically analyse the strengths and limitations of quantitative research.
