Unit Code: DRE533

Unit Name: Electrical Machine Drives & Control

Description: The overall purpose of this unit is to develop an understanding and skills related to the construction, cooperation and performance of electrical machines. The course covers the laboratory component of the course Electrical Machines Drives and Controls Laboratories are an important part of the course. This course will enhance the theoretical knowledge gained by you in the course Electrical Machines Drives and Controls through a series of practicals. The experiments cover concepts from classical mechanics, fluid flow, heat and temperature to electricity.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, you should be able to: 1. Demonstrates creativity to propose possible solutions to electrical machine drive and control failures. 2. Understands the range of tools available, selects a suitable tool and explains the selection including consideration of the limitation of the tools available. 3. Applies established risk management strategies to minimize the likelihood of significant consequences (such as injury or loss of life, major environmental damage, or significant economic loss) occurring in the event of failure. 4. Function effectively as an individual, and as a member in diverse technical teams. 5. Presents clearly written reports for both technical and lay audiences, as is appropriate. 6. Presents work verbally in a clear and articulate manner, using visual aids appropriately. 7. Applies independent learning practices.
