Unit Code: DPL643

Unit Name: Maintenance of Mechanical Equipment

Description: This course will enable you to develop the knowledge and skills required for competency in plant maintenance and management, to develop your ability in formulating suitable maintenance strategies to achieve reliable manufacturing systems, to empower you with the skills to manage a manufacturing system to achieve continuous system availability for production and equip you with essential system diagnosis techniques so that you can identify and take appropriate actions on error symptoms and causes of failures.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, you should be able to: 1. Apply knowledge of plant engineering fundamentals. 2. Conduct investigations of well-defined problems; locate and search relevant codes and catalogues, conduct standard tests and measurements. 3. Apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools to well-defined engineering problems, with an awareness of the limitations. 4. Identifies operational hazards and sets out relevant steps to be taken to lower the risk to public health and safety (including as appropriate to the discipline, safety in construction/fabrication, operation, maintenance, deconstruction/disposal, failing-safe and occupational health and safety). 5. Demonstrate knowledge of the societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to engineering technician practice and solutions to well-defined engineering problems. 6. Understand and evaluate the sustainability and impact of engineering technician work in the solution of well-defined engineering problems in societal and environmental contexts. 7. Function effectively as an individual, and as a member of diverse technical teams. 8. Communicate effectively on well-defined engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, by being able to comprehend the work of others, document their own work, and give and receive clear instructions. 9. Recognize the need for, and have the ability to engage in independent updating in the context of specialized technical knowledge.
