Unit Name: Nutrition in First 1000 Days and the Elderly

Description: This course runs in two modules. Module 1 deals with first one thousand days of life and module 2 deals with elderly. It provides students with an advanced understanding of the special nutritional needs and determinants during the first 1000 days and in the elderly.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, student will be able to: 1. Evaluate the special nutrition needs of mother and child during the first 1000 days. 2. Explain the prevalence and determinants of common nutritional concerns for infants and children in the Pacific Islands. 3. Distinguish the key stakeholders and policies at a national, regional and global level working in maternal and child health. 4. Design nutritional interventions for maternal and child nutrition in the Pacific Islands. 5. Evaluate the special nutritional needs of elderly during the aging process. 6. Evaluate various nutritional assessment method followed for elderly. 7. Discuss various community services and programmes for the elderly at the national, regional and global level.
