Unit Name: Nutrition for Sports and Fitness
Description: The purpose of this course is to provide students with comprehensive understanding of sport-specific diet for population differing nutritional requirements fin comparison to inactive population.This course will enhance students knowledge on different food and physical activity, methods used for analysing physcial activity and dietary intake, application of physical activity assessement methods and recommended dietary strategies for health, well-being and performance, and insights on safe, legal and effective utilzation of supplements in active individuals.
Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1: Compare the different food and physical activity guidelines available in the Pacific 2: Compare commonly used methods for measuring and analysing physical activity and dietary intake 3: Apply nutrition and physical activity assessment methods to active individuals in an ethical manner. 4: Recommend dietary strategies for health, well-being, and performance in healthy populations using reliable sources of population and sport-specific dietary guidelines. 5: Apply evidence to practical recommendations related to safe, legal, and effective use of supplements and sports foods by athletes and active individuals
