Unit Name: Sports Nutrition

Description: Good nutrition is an important factor in fitness and sports performance. Athletes have vast differing nutritional requirements in comparison to non-athletes. Optimal performance is influenced by a lifetime of good food habits rather than the use or avoidance of particular food types during performance. Nutrition and exercise are closely involved in improving performance and physical fitness. Other factors of importance is understanding body composition, muscular competence, respiratory and cardiovascular capabilities. It is important to choose a diet that support fitness programme more so enhances overall good health.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, the students will be able to : 1. Discuss the muscular fitness components. 2. Distinguish the source of energy utilized during different form of activities. 3. Assess the nutritional status of sports personnel. 4. Design and implement nutrition care plan. 5. Describe the effects of physical stress or fatigue on performance. 6. Discuss the effects of ergogenic aids and their role in sports performance.
