Description: A sustainable food system ensures that everyone has access to food security and proper nutrition while safeguarding the economic, social, and environmental foundations needed to maintain food security and nutrition for future generations. In this course you will explore the interconnected dimensions of healthy and sustainable food systems and how they relate to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. You will gain an understanding of why sustainable food systems are necessary to reduce diet-related diseases and protect our planet. You will explore global policies and actions relevant to sustainability issues in nutrition, designed to address various aspects of the food system to promote healthy and sustainable food systems.
Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1: Explain the components of food systems and their relevance to the provision of healthy and sustainable diets\" 2: Distinguish the diverse influences affecting consumers’ ability or desire to consume a sustainable diet through the four domains of nutrition, environment, economy, and society 3: Analyse the sustainability of a food product using a four-pillar method of analysis\" 4: Explain sustainable food and nutrition practices at individual, community, and population levels\" 5: Apply the principles of sustainable food and nutrition practices at the individual level\"
