Unit Name: Food and Nutrition in the Lifecycle

Description: Many factors affect an individual’s ability to meet the nutritional needs at different stages of the lifecycle. The science of human nutrition addresses personal needs, therefore knowledge of nutrients at different lifecycle stage is essential in the light of changing food habits, expanding population, personal health care, bodily changes, food beliefs and values and prevention of diseases.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, the students will be able to : 1. Explain the importance of nutrition in various life cycle stages. 2. Discuss nutritional concerns and problems at various lifecycle stages. 3. Identify the possible causes of inadequate nutrition and explain the feasible solutions at different lifecycle stages. 4. Practise nutritional assessment methods for different age groups in an ethical and professional manner. 5. Describe the special groups in terms of lifecycle stages, socio-economic conditions and their nutritional requirements.
