Unit Name: Nutrition across the lifespan

Description: This course is designed to introduce you to the basic principles of nutrition throughout the lifecycle. Students will learn the lifecycle nutrition principles related from preconception to the elderly age. The importance of planning and preparing healthy meals to meet the requirements of individuals at this different lifecycle will be the focus of this course.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, the students will be able to: 1. Determine foods and nutrient needs during the lifecycle. 2. Explain the food components and nutritive value that will enhance good health. 3. Interpret the most common health problem that arises at different life stages. 4. Demonstrate an understanding of the nutritional assessment methods to determine nutritional needs of various groups. 5. Demonstrate an understanding of healthy meal preparations according to the Pacific dietary guidelines.
