Unit Name: Oral Health Promotion project
Description: The course appraises principles, goals, importance in decision making and application of evidence based practice to oral health care. With this background, students are able to carry out a SWOT analysis and establish measurable oral health goals. In addition, the students will also be expected to formulate oral health strategies by recognising common risk factors in the procurement of dental services. Students will also be expected to design an oral health promotion project that will be applicable to relevant target population. Furthermore, students will also develop an evaluation plan of an existing health promotion programmes.
Learning Target Outcomes: At the end of this course, the student should be able to: 1. Prepare a SWOT analysis of oral health issues in a prescribed population 2. Formulate oral health goals for the prescribed population 3. Plan appropriate oral health strategies to address priority oral health problems 4. Write an observation report on the implementation of an existing oral health promotion programme 5. Develop a monitoring and evaluation plan for an oral health promotion programme in the local setting. 6. Prepare an oral health promotion project report.
