Unit Name: Allied Topics (Oral Pathology, Radiology, Plastic Surgery, ENT)

Description: For Components 1-3, the trainee is expected to take part as observers in the clinical management of patients during these appointments and to obtain a basic understanding of management of patients with systemic disease and relate these to the practice oral surgery.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, the students will be able to: 1.Describe procedures involved in macroscopic pathology and principles of immunochemistry and molecular biology. 2. Apply basic histopathology knowledge in the identification and diagnosis of common dental and oral disease conditions. 3. Discuss techniques of intra oral radiography, extra oral radiography, Digital radiography and Special imaging techniques including Ultrasound Scan. 4. Discuss principles of Imaging techniques indicated for diseases of the oro-facial region and interpret findings. 5. Discuss the process of wound healing, its complications and methods available to manage wounds. 6. Discuss indications, advantages and disadvantages of various grafts and flaps available in the reconstructive ladder. 7. Describe pathogenesis, diagnosis and principles of management of common ENT disorders of importance to oro-facial region. 8. Describe principles of management of neoplastic lesions of ear, nose, throat and identify cases that require interdisciplinary management.
