Unit Name: Community Dentistry IV
Description: The purpose of this course is to provide students with the roles expected of a community dentist. How to assess oral and general health indicators, the understanding of the impact of environmental, social, nutritional, factors on the pathogenisis of human disease, models of health behavior, screening of disease and health promotion strategies. Students are required to know the methods of financing dental care, methods of advocating quality assurance in dentistry and the ethical responsibilities of a dentist in the delivery of dental care to the community.
Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Demonstrate knowledge and skills in planning and conducting oral health survey; and reporting the survey results. 2. Discuss Psychology of Dental Care, Professionalism & Ethics. 3. Describe Evidence Based Dentistry & Dental Informatics. 4. Discuss Oral Cancer as an Emerging Public Health Problem in the Pacific. 5. Discuss Water Fluoridation as a Preventive Public Health Strategy. 6. Discuss Preventive Strategies, Common Risk Factor Approach, Universal Health Care & Nutrition related to Oral health (SDG 2: Zero Hunger). 7. Discuss Oral Health in the 21st Century.(SDG 3.8: Universal Health Coverage)
