Unit Name: Clinical Dentistry III
Description: This course is a fully fledged clinically based practice where students attend to patients under supervision. It is the culmination of 3 years of theoratical preparation whereby students apply all the learning into real life practice preparing the student to be a competent, compasionate and ethical practitioner ready to serve the community at the completion of this course.
Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Apply scientific knowledge and demonstrate compassionate behaviour in the management of dental patient. 2. Record relevant history, conduct clinical examination, diagnose and prepare a treatment plan. 3. Plan and implement oral disease preventive procedures. 4. Diagnose, perform restorative procedures and refer when indicated. 5. Diagnose, perform minor oral surgical procedures and refer when indicated. 6. Demonstrate skills in documenting, reporting and maintaining patient record as well as incorporating a self-reflective approach to dental practice. 7. Treat or refer dental patients with systemic conditions through interprofessional collaborative practice 8. Apply the principles of infection control in clinical practice. 9. Apply first aid procedures in the management of common medical emergencies in the dental clinic. 10. Apply opportunities for promoting climate-resilient oral health practices (SDG 13: Climate Action).
