Unit Name: Clinical Practice III

Description: This course is designed to provide the students with a hands-on fully-intensive to all the basic principles, materials and procedures of dental clinical practice, in the controlled environment of the clinic. Students develop skills in carrying out strict implementation of infection control and occupational health and safety measures, assist in the management of emergencies in dental office, preparation and processing of radiographs, minimal non-interventional patient interactions, basic first-aid and maintenance, basic restorative, periodontal and minor oral surgery procedure. They also provide comprehensive preventive management of patients such as fluoride therapy, fissure sealants, oral hygiene instructions, diet counselling, somkig cessation, etc. This course serves to provide an integration of the theory and practical of dental clinical practice.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, the students will be able to: 1. Demonstrate the ability to communicate with patients and other health professionals about a patient’s oral health status, treatment options and outcomes. 2. Demonstrate knowledge and skills in infection control practices. 3. Demonstrate skills in obtaining relevant history, clinical examination, diagnosis, and treatment planning. 4. Demonstrate immediate management of common medical emergencies in dental practice. 5. Plan and implement oral disease preventive strategies and procedures. 6. Demonstrate knowledge and skills in the management of periodontal disease. 7. Demonstrate knowledge and skills in preventive and restorative strategies for caries management. 8. Demonstrate knowledge and skills in the management of paediatric and vulnerable patients.
