Unit Name: Community Dentistry II

Description: The purpose of this course is to provide a understanding of the evolution and history of health promotion. This subject will also provide relevant knowledge necessary to conduct / plan health promotion programs and evaluation based on population needs. It also gives students an opportunity to discuss their experiences around the theories of the health promotion approaches and other health prevention strategies that they have been exposed to in class and in life. Students will also have an opportunity to enhance their knowledge and skills in health planning, implementing and evaluating health promotion program. Moreover, students will be involved in hands on health education and communication strategies development using state of the art facilities and explore other health promotion practices.

Social marketing will train students in the application of commercial marketing principles and concepts to change health behaviours or policies, which have emerged as an effective way to promote health, create healthy environments, and affect policies for the good of a population’s health.
