Unit Name: Dental Assisting
Description: This course is designed to provide students with hands on supervised experience in dental assisting in predefined areas to ensure a broad range of clinical experience. Students are expected to achieve requirements as outlined in the DNT403 logbook. This will include routine dental treatment in general dental practice as well as an opportunity to do further work in areas of interest.
Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, the students will be able to: 1. Perform chair side assisting in the provision of dental care for a child patient. 2, Perform efficient practice management as a dental assistant. 3. Practise assisting dental imaging procedures. 4. Practise chair side assisting in management of carious lesions and periodontal disease 5. Practise chair side assisting in two of the following dental disciplines: a. Endodontics b. Removable Prosthodontics c. Fixed Prosthodontics d. Orthodontics e. Oral Surgery f. Community Dentistry
