Unit Name: Chart Work

Description: The purpose of this unit is to prepare the student to be able to prepare passage plans and to prepare the students to conduct navigation watch keeping duties.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to: • Demonstrate proficiency in plotting the vessel\'s position with the use of all available means • Demonstrate proficiency in planning the vessel\'s track to navigate • Apply the theories learned in the respective to subjects to prepare the passage plan taking in to consideration the prevailing circumstances and conditions. • Calculate and predict the times and heights of tide. • Track the vessel\'s passage by means of celestial and terrestrial navigation. • Demonstrate proficiency in updating the charts and associated navigational publications as required in weekly notices to mariners • Analyze and discuss the shortest route to be taken during the passage.
