Unit Name: Applied Science

Description: This course covers the Applied Science which is deemed necessary to obtain the depth of knowledge required under various competences of section A-II/1 & AII/2 of the STCW code for a watchkeeping officer on ships of 500gt or more.

Learning Target Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this unit, the student is expected to: • Apply the basics of positive and negative integers and number systems. • Demonstrate the hierarchy of Arithmetic operations • Analyze and discuss the graphs of Trigonometric Functions and the Application of the Simpson\'s Rules. • Apply the basic concepts of fluid mechanics & Understand and use basis statistics • Demonstrates concepts of the system surrounding Thermodynamic systems and Heat transfer, generate relevant terms in the areas of waves, light and sound. • Differentiate the basic principles of electricity & current and access how electricity & magnetism work together.

Prerequisite: Successfully completed DA5 / Class 3 Master
