Unit Name: Watchkeeping III

Description: This course provides students with thorough knowledge IALA system of buoyage, utilization of the international regulation for preventing collision at sea, the regulations regarding watchkeeping on the bridge, responding to emergencies, ship maneuvering and handling.

Learning Target Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this unit DNS583 , the students is expected to: • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of the IALA system of Buoyage ,Keeping a log and Colregs 72 as amended • Categorize principles in keeping a safe navigational watch & deck watch in port • Apply detailed knowledge of the principles of Bridge resource management and Bridge Equipment. • Demonstrate actions which can be taken when emergencies arise in port • Use IAMSAR Volume III effectively when faced with a search and rescue situation • Appraise thorough knowledge of Ship maneuvering. ng and handling. • Analyze and discuss Initial damage assessment and control, In port and Assisting ship in distress.
