Unit Name: Nautical Knowledge III

Description: This course provides the students with a foundation knowledge of shipboard operations and cargo operation.

Learning Target Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this unit DNS 582, the student is expected to: • Differentiate types of cargoes and methods of stowage and securing including knowledge of the IMDG Code. • Demonstrate the basic understanding of MARPOL 73/78 • Categorize meteorological equipment and ocean wind and pressure systems • Analyze development of TRS and vessels weather services. • General knowledge of the main originators of international conventions concerned with maritime law • Apply the International Convention for the Unification of Certain Rules of Law with Respect to Collision Between Vessels.

Prerequisite: Successfully completed DA3 / Class 4 Master.
