Unit Name: General Ship Knowledge II

Description: This approved course provides students with the knowledge and understanding of ship construction and Ship stability.

Learning Target Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this unit DNS , the student is expected to: NS486, the student is expected to : • Apply knowledge and understanding of the external & internal forces experienced on a hull structure • Differentiate structural components on ships\\\' plans and drawings & Analyze the arrangement of fitting of a vessel • describes and illustrates standard steel sections • Demonstrate knowledge & understanding of the anchor handling equipment • Distinguish between watertight, non-watertight and oil tight or tank bulkheads & discuss concept of Buoyancy • Discuss the fundamental principles of transverse statistical stability and initial stability & differentiate states of equilibrium of ships& angle of loll • Demonstrate the list resulting from a change in distribution of masses & its correction and distinguish free surface effect and precautions to be taken to minimize the effect.
