Unit Name: Watchkeeping I

Description: This course provides students with knowledge of the regulations regarding watchkeeping on the bridge, knowledge of utilisation of the international regulation for preventing collision at sea and ability to transmit and receive information by visual signaling. Understanding the proper use and limitations of Bridge Equipment including radar.

Learning Target Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this unit course DNS483, the students is expected to: • Demonstrate basic knowledge and use of Bridge Equipment including radar. • Interpret the purpose of regulations for preventing of collision at sea & application • Demonstrate knowledge & understanding of IALA system of Buoyage • Illustrate International Code of Signals to interpret messages given by flags and pendants • Apply the ability to transmit & receive information by marine very high frequency (VHF) on a vessel • Demonstrate basic knowledge of Marine Radar.
