Unit Name: General Ship Knowledge I

Description: This course provides the student with a basic understanding of ship construction & ship\\\'s stability and the application of the principle calculation associated with the basic knowledge of Engineering on board.

Learning Target Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this unit DNS481, the student is expected to: • Illustrate ate main dimensions of a ship, specify the functions of structural components, identify corrosion • Interpret corrosion control, specify surface preparation, application of paints, Docking and Slipping, Survey. • Demonstrate basic knowledge and understanding of the principle of floatation • Sketch the movement of the centre of gravity of a ship when moving weights. • Determine fundamental principles of transverse statical stability • Interpret the knowledge of Engineering onboard vessels.
