Unit Name: Marine Engineering Knowledge Practical II

Description: This unit will introduce to the students to fundamental skills required by a marine engineer to carry out repairs on marine machinery in a safe manner. The syllabus is based on guidelines from the IMO model course 7.04 OFFICER IN CHARGE OF AND ENGINEERING WATCH.

Learning Target Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this unit DME 561, the student is expected to: • Demonstrate methods of safe working practices when working with tools • Apply practical knowledge of dismantling and assembling marine machinery • Understand the process of operating Marine Boilers and Diesel Engines • Demonstrate the ability to use the various machine and hand tools • Understand engineering drawings as applied to marine machinery • Demonstrate familiarization with various machinery parts and their use

Prerequisite: Successfully completed EA5/Class 3 Engineer
