Unit Name: Marine Engineering Knowledge Practical I

Description: This unit will introduce to the students to fundamental skills required by a marine engineer to carry out repairs on marine machinery in a safe manner. The syllabus is based on guidelines from the IMO model course 7.04 Officer in Charge Of and Engineering Watch.

Learning Target Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this unit DME 560, the student is expected to: • Demonstrate methods of safe working practices when working with tools • Explain methods of emergency repairs on board • Demonstrate electric arc and gas welding processes • Demonstrate the ability to use the various machine and hand tools • Understand engineering drawings as applied to marine machinery • Apply marine engineering drawing practice to ships schematics

Prerequisite: Successfully completed EA5/Class 3 Engineer
