Unit Code: DAU613

Unit Name: Mechanics of Road Vehicle

Description: The course aims to critically analyse vehicle systems for dynamic and static behaviours. It develops an understanding of the application of engineering techniques as they apply to fundamental components of the vehicle. Students learn the fundamental theory of vehicle dynamics, vehicle performance and related tests and regulations.

Learning Target Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the learner can: 1. Analyze the physical and mathematical models to predict the dynamic response of vehicles. 2. Analyze vehicle and driver performance using vehicle dynamics theories. 3. Examine the basic terms within vehicle dynamics and describe and use the coordinate transformations for vehicle dynamic analysis. 4. Analyze the influence of vehicle configuration and design parameters on vehicle performance. 5. Explain how different changes of the construction of the vehicle affects the dynamical characteristics of a vehicle. 6. Evaluate and present a simple field test for vehicle dynamic analysis.
