Unit Code: DAU507

Unit Name: Automotive Transmission

Description: The course is designed to develop the basic knowledge of the students in mechanics, torque conversion areas, transmission systems. It also helps create skills in the areas of alternative drives and concepts. The unit along with its required field visit, gives exposure to the advanced transmission systems used in the industry.

Learning Target Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the learner can: 1. Analyse and build the concept of gear motions, and drive line positions. 2. Analyze the constructional features and working principles of various types of gearboxes for automotive applications. 3. Examine and explain the multi stage and polyphase torque converters, performance characteristics of fluid couplings etc. 4. Identify and interpret drive train concepts and examine their suitability for automotive applications. 5. Examine the modern transmission systems available and apply engineering principles for their analysis. 6. Categorize and contrast the transmission systems based on their performance.
