Unit Code: DAU504

Unit Name: Automotive Fluid Mechanics

Description: The objective of this course is to introduce and explain basic fundamentals of fluid mechanics and its applications in automotive, aerodynamics, hydraulics, marine engineering, gas dynamics and electronics cooling. It helps the student to understand the basic concepts pertaining to fluid mechanics in relation to automotive fields and the energy exchange process and complexities involved in fluid machinery and turbomachinery components.

Learning Target Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the learner can: 1. Analyse and calculate parameters pertaining to fluid flow, and forces produced by fluid impact on geometrical profiles. 2. Examine a broad spectrum of commonly used hydraulic machinery. 3. Formulate a test and implement for the properties of fluid and compare to theoretical calculations. 4. Calculate the efficacy of hydraulic machines for economic operation. 5. Apply engineering principles to solve static fluid and flow problems. 6. Apply and formulate the governing equations, apply boundary layer concepts for practical industrial fluid problems.
