Unit Code: DAU503

Unit Name: Automotive Electrical and Electronics

Description: The course allows learning concepts and developing basic skills necessary to diagnose automotive electrical problems. It includes technical aspects of starting, charging, lighting systems, advanced automotive electrical systems, body electrical accessories and basic computer control. The unit guides to compile a list of safety precautions to be observed before and whilst carrying out electrical maintenance work and repairs, use electrical formulae and equations to calculate electrical quantities relating of voltage, current flow, resistance, power and capacitance. The student should be able to design and construct a fundamental automotive electrical circuit and execute practical use of core automotive electrical test equipment.

Learning Target Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the learner can: 1. Categorize the different wiring diagrams used in the manufacturer’s workshop manuals. 2. Identify the various modules and sensors from the wiring diagrams. 3. Examine & determine the function, operation of the various modules & sensors & have a good knowledge of their use in vehicle control. 4. Interpret vehicle manufacturer automotive electrical circuit schematics and calculate the electrical effects of anomalies within the electrical circuit. 5. Determine and use electrical components and associated wiring to construct series, parallel and series-parallel electrical circuits. 6. Evaluate electrical circuits to meet modern-day requirements of vehicle sub-systems.
