Unit Name: Workshop Ethical Practices and OHS

Description: This course is designed to introduce students to the basic principles, applications and knowledge in fitting and craft skills, welding application, electrical equipment applications, sheetmetal and plumbing, carpentry and joinery. The unit also provides a basic introduction to workplace health and safety procedures and practice. This course introduces to the study of ethics and moral principles which affect decision making and ethical challenges in professional lives.

Learning Target Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the learner can: 1. Operate basic machine tools, such as milling, shaping, boring and lathes. 2. Apply fabrication techniques such as welding, fitting, moulding and pattern-making. 3. Identify and analyze an ethical issue in the subject matter under investigation. 4. Identify the multiple ethical interests at stake in a real-world situation or practice. 5. Interpret and apply legislative requirements, industry standards, and best practices in a variety of workplaces. 6. Apply risk management principles to anticipate, identify, evaluate and control hazards.
