Unit Name: Cyber Security

Description: This course will equip the students with an understanding of the impact of cyber crimes on national , societal and personal security. Aspects of critical infrastructure and emerging governance rules will be explored. Students address the challenges to cyber-security and examine the nature, prevalence, scope and the means by which criminals perform these crimes.The course explores the role and networks of offenders as well as the means to investigate and prevent cybercrime. International efforts to counter cyber-security threats by state and non-state actors are assessed. The course provides opportunities to students to do critical assessments of the threats to liberty posed by the emergent new digital age of surveillance.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to do the following: 1. Comprehend modern business practices and concepts of e-communication and networking 2. Understand the different theoretical and cross-disciplinary approaches to the study of cyber-security 3. Critically analyze important concepts and challenges regarding cyber security 4. Gain some familiarity with basic countermeasures to common avenues of attack 5. Discover the definitions of cyber security/warfare and its implications 6. Identify and describe the impact of cyber security and state security issues
