Unit Name: Data Communications and Networking

Description: Data Communications & Networking is a subject that studies the principles and practice of data communication and computer networking. This course has been designed for final-year students who are interested in the digital environment of communications and the management necessary to control it. Students will be able to study the structure and components of computer networks using the OSI layered architecture of networks as an organization principle. It covers all the concepts necessary for a complete understanding of the design of practical telecommunication networks, whether they are meant to carry voice, data, facsimile, telemetry, video, or any combination of these. Students will also be able to understand the principles of IP addressing and its assignment within networks.
