Unit Name: Database Design and Programming

Description: This course offers students an understanding of fundamental concepts of database management system including database design, database languages, and database system implementation. Students will also be able to learn to configure a server, preferably WAMP, XAMPP, or LAMP and use this server for creating database. MySQL, Oracle or PostgreSQL database will be used for this course.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students should be able to understand the following: 1. Analyze and relate database management systems and database application development tools. 2. Synthesize graphical representations of the entities, and the relationships between entities, within information systems. 3. Model relationships between entities. 4. Analyze data representations to minimize redundancy. 5. Use a Structured Query Language to manage data in a database. 6. Analyze ways to handle database failures. 7. Design and use advance SQL techniques to manage data in a Database.

Prerequisite: The student must have passed CIN502 or equivalent
