Unit Name: System Administration

Description: This course offers students an understanding of Linux administration, including installation, software, software updates, installation of web server technology, setting up networks and become an expert in shell scripting. System administration is the management and configuration of one or more computers with: • Multiple operating systems • Multiple hardware architecture • Multiple software suites Together with the shared resources necessary, such as networks, to make them work together The aim of this course is to give the students an overview of the operating system and how the OS works with other hardware in a computer system. The lab will cover the tasks involved in installing, configuring and maintaining different types of operating systems.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to understand the following: 1. Understand the concept of system administration 2. Discuss and understand the motivation behind FOSS. 3. Understand the overview of a chosen operating system. 4. Differentiate the different types of software categories, the popularity of the application, distribution rights. 5. Evaluate the importance of operating systems and file management. 6. Analyze and Understand network administration. 7. Evaluate and apply the use and implement of the servers required for building Internet applications. 8. Practice commands and shell scripting.

Prerequisite: Passed CIN411 consent from HOD.
