Unit Name: System Support

Description: This course offers students to obtain skills and knowledge to enable them to install, manage and troubleshoot operating systems, resources, devices, drivers, desktop and user environments.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to understand the following: 1. Install and troubleshoot an operating system. 2. Comprehend how resource sharing operates within a network and how the various forms of permissions that can be assigned to resources will affect the end-user. 3. Configure and troubleshoot hardware devices and their drivers. 4. Provide and maintain the tools that keep users productive by customizing their desktop for their specific needs. 5. Discuss the tools that could recover from a failed operating system. 6. Install and use application and utility software. 7. Discuss the training needs of an organization by conducting a training needs analysis, deciding on which training materials/facilities to use, and the evaluation techniques and methods. 8. Organize and operate a help desk. 9. Analyze business needs and negotiate with suppliers for the purchase, delivery and support of goods or services.
