Unit Name: ICT Fundamentals

Description: This course introduces the fundamental concepts and practices in the general field of Computer Science and Information Technology. It is the course where students are introduced to the basic principles of computing. Many of the ideas and topics covered in the course will be explored in higher Level Computer Science courses within the Department.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to understand the following: 1. Discuss the general goals of Computer Science. 2. Analyze the different situations that demand computer-based solutions. 3. Discuss the essence of computer hardware. 4. Discuss the essence of computer software. 5. Explore topics in Computer Logic and Arithmetic. 6. Explore the basic principles of Computer Organization. 7. Programming and Data. 8. Data Communications and Network.

Prerequisite: Passed Year 12 or Equivalent.
