Unit Code: CHM925
Unit Name: Chemistry of Paints, Coatings, Adhesives and Sealants
Description: The chemistry of paints, coatings, adhesives and sealants course is designed to cover the specific needs of entrepreneurs and students desirous of taking assignments in industry and related consultancy, and R&D work for example, construction, automotive and aerospace industries. The course will cover the chemistry, reactions and properties of different constituents of coatings and paints systems and solvents, applications and test methods, as well as environmental and health implications. The course describes also different types of adhesives and sealants, their chemical constitution, and their desired physicochemical characteristics depending upon the end use. It will also introduce the mechanism of adhesion and environmental implications. The emphasis will be on developing knowledge and understanding of underlying chemistry concepts and facts. The laboratory/project component will include hands-on training on the analysis of select branded products, the development of new formulations and their stability studies using thermo-chemical methods.
