Unit Code: CHM803

Unit Name: Structure and Reactivity of Organic Compounds

Description: Structure and reactivity are omportant efects that describe properties of various classes and groups of organic compounds. The course include such topics/characters as electronic and steric effects, conformation analysis, approaches to description of interaction between molecules, such as global and local indicies of reactivity as softness, hardness, Fukui function, etc. Structure and reactivity of acyclic, cyclic and ring-fused compounds will be studied.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to : 1. Use reactivity indices to describe and predict the chemical behaviour of organic compounds. 2. Predict possible major products and explain the formation of side products, determine and predict reactive atoms in molecules based on different approaches, recognize conformational structures (rotamers) of other molecules, determine predominant conformers to explain stereo/regioselectivity of reactions
